Antidesma ghaesembilla
A hardy Australian native shrub producing clusters of small, juicy berries, Wild Currant thrives in warm climates and is well suited to tropical and subtropical gardens, making it a great low-maintenance addition to home orchards, bush food gardens, or acreage plantings.
The fruit ranges from pale pink through to deep red when ripe and has a pleasantly tangy, slightly sweet flavour. Traditionally used by Indigenous Australians, the berries are great eaten fresh or made into jams, sauces, and desserts.
Wild Currant plants form a dense, leafy shrub and also work well as an informal hedge or screen.
